Fixing Corrupt Zip Files Downloaded From FTP ASCII Instead of Binary

If you have ever downloaded a ZIP file from an FTP and accidentally picked the wrong transfer mode. In this case the correct mode was suppose to be binary and ASCII was chosen. It is possible to fix this problem.

First you need this Free Hex Editor.

Once you have the Hex Editor make a copy of your ZIP file, for backup. Then open the ZIP file in the HEX editor.

Now click Search and then Replace. The search and replace window will popup.

Select Hex String and enter 0D 0A for the find.

Select Hex String and enter 0A for the replace.

Click Replace All and watch XVI32 do work. For the 135MB file I did, it only took a few seconds to replace 500,000 plus occurrences.

Now click File and then Save As to save the file under a new name. You should now be able to open the ZIP file.
